Winter news

Winter time means vacation time for our horses. Some of them started a new career last summer as trail guide horses and some as a backcountry guest horses in the scenic Jasper National Park at Skyline Trail Rides. Those ones spend winter months, with other guest horses on a 3000 acres community pasture near Brule, it is freedom for 6 months! The weather has been nice and lacking snow. We were able to work some horses under harness & sleigh in December and January but now the snow is gone.

DDD Cromwell Winston, our only foal from last spring is developing into a wonderful yearling. He definitely shows lots of the mare's lightness (Temis Chantecler Kassie) and the calm disposition of our Stallion D-Cromwell. We are not expecting any foal in 2010. Visit us at Double Double Canadians to see our Sales Barn.

the new website is finally finished. you can see the result at www.canadianhorse.info
We are still waiting for Kassie to foal, she is 2 weeks passed her due date. That will be the only foal this year.
Weather has been great, sunny and warm . Alberta is almost in a drought condition right now.
We have been busy starting horses in Jasper. Heureuse , one of our ex-broodmare is now a guide horse. She is just awesome, first time as a riding horse and she is 10 years old. Hermine also started her training as well as Reine, Mercure, and a few other Canadian crosses.
Looks like we will have a busy summer at Shovel Pass Lodge. We are opening on July 15.

Spring news

well, it has been a cold winter here, and too long. We are just starting to see some leafs coming out. I have been busy working on  a new website for Double Diamond , should be out in the next 2 weeks.

Only one mare pregnant this year, our beautiful Kassy from a Cromwell breeding.
The weanlings/yearlings are growing fast and are now all halter broke. Pacha gave us so many nice looking stud colts that it is hard to pick the one that we will keep as Stallion.
We have a dressage rider with us from France who is helping in the training of some young horses.
Petite is coming along real good. Reine has been started  and is progressing nicely into her dressage training. Rexx and Rika are the next one on the list.

Merry Christmas!

It looks like we are finally getting out of that very cold snap of -35C we had for the last 10 days.

Weanlings are doing fine, running all over the place . All the Canadians went so easily through that cold period. you have to love that breed!
here are a few pick of the horses with their winter coat.

Busy season over.

we are now done with our riding stables and pack trips season. Now it is time to relax a bit more and work with those horses.

Since my last post we finished foaling season and got 9 beautiful foals,  2 from our stallion Cromwell and 7 from Pacha, who was able to pass his bloodline before he died at the age of 26 years old, thank you Pacha!!

We have now 5 weanling learning to live without their mom, the first 48 hours is hard but soon they start playing with each other. No snow yet in Brule, fall has been nice.
